Playing Catch Up

Last week was one of my worst workout weeks in a long time. And it came right after a great week too! I just felt off. My back has started aching a lot during this pregnancy, I couldn’t find my belly band one morning and my alarm didn’t go off on another morning. Excuses, excuses, I know, but that was my week. Two 1.5 mile sessions on the treadmill and one measly 8 minute strength training session.

I also forgot I was huge and pregnant and sprinted toward my daughter after she fell on Saturday. She was o.k. and just has a pretty good bruise on her forehead. My belly and back have been aching a little since that unexpected movement but I’m hoping that doesn’t get in the way of walking this week.

My book club got together this week and I actually finished the book this month. We read “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn. It was quite a disturbing book and I was worried that I wouldn’t get it finished but then about half way through the book there were some pretty good twists and it was difficult to put it down after that.

Now I am concentrating on catching up with my January New Yorkers.

Lately Before January I was pretty good about keeping up with current issues each week but  I guess January was rough on my magazine reading. I’m not even going to show you the pile of past New Yorkers that is in a basket by my bed. One day I’ll catch up!

My doctor appointment went well again this week. I am now on the weekly visits which means one thing…I’m getting closer! I’m pretty lucky because my husband works from home. This makes me pretty lucky in a lot of ways but it has helped me to take advantage of the kids’ nap time for my pregnancy appointments. I have made most of my appointments during their nap time and so far it has worked well to sneak out while they are sleeping. Little O typically wakes up before I get home and he knows to go down to the playroom near my husbands office if I’m not home yet. My husband just keeps the monitor downstairs so he can hear when the kids wake up and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it keeps working well for the next four or so appointments.

36 weeks pregnant on Thursday!

My 35th Week of Pregnancy

Thoughts during my 35th week of Pregnancy.

I’m not sure if the baby bump is more or less comfortable during nap time snuggling.

This time around we decided to NOT find out if we were having a boy or a girl. We found out with our other two children but since we have one of each and don’t really need to buy anything for this baby we decided to wait and be surprised.

Back when we had the ultrasound done I was o.k. with our decision and the tech even told us that it was probably a good thing we didn’t want to know because the baby wasn’t ‘cooperating’ anyway.

Now my due date is coming closer and closer and I’m getting more and more impatient.

I’ve started washing the baby laundry.

Newborn plus 0-3 month clothes for boy, girl and neutral. I had no idea how many clothes we already had!

I’m a little saddened by some of the spit up stains that have shown up on the clothes after years of being in storage. They were all clean when I put them away but I had a lot of surprises on the boy clothes especially. Is there anyway to get these stains out now or is it too late???

I’ve also been washing bedding and blankets too. I think I’m seriously nesting! My husband thinks so too. I came out of the laundry room holding this adorable side snap onesie proclaiming how much I love side snaps on little tiny babies. He just looked at me like I was crazy and said something about me being in the nesting mode.

Adorable, right?

I’m talking about laundry too much. Even if it is cute little baby laundry…my favorite kind!

Hands down, the hardest thing about not knowing if this baby is a boy or a girl is deciding on the name. With our other two children we knew the names very early on, pretty much right after we found out the sex of the baby.

Here we are almost a month out and we haven’t officially decided on a name. We have to decide before the hospital. For a couple of reasons. First, I don’t want the added stress of making that decision after the baby is here. Second, I have always made a scrapbook sheet with the baby’s name on it for visitors to sign when they come to the hospital. I want to get this ready soon so I can start to get a bag together for the hospital.

I’m also a little concerned about our oldest. He really wants a brother and I’m afraid of his initial reaction if we end up having a girl. I know he’ll adjust and love his sibling but it will be interesting to see how he reacts.

Overall, I’m still glad we decided to wait. It will make the actual birth so exciting for us and all of our family and friends. We are so blessed to have our third baby on the way and really are just so excited to hold that little bundle of joy in either a pink or a blue blanket.

My Five on Friday

Five things on my mind this week.

I finally gave in and made overnight oats. I’ve been looking at recipes forever but I couldn’t get over the fact that they are cold when you eat them. I like my oatmeal not too hot and not too cold. Just right. My favorite hot oats recipe has a banana in it and a few weeks ago the texture started to bother me. (Just another thing to give up during this pregnancy!) Breakfast hasn’t been filling me up lately so I decided to give the cold overnight oats a try. Am I ever glad I did! They are healthy, filling and delicious! Here is the recipe that I have been enjoying this week. My only add on is to sprinkle walnuts on right before I eat it in the morning.

Recently, I bought a new phone. I thought I was going to go with the new iphone but I ended up with the Incredible Android. I love it. I’m so glad I chose this one over the more popular iphone. The only thing I was disappointed in was the camera. It was really hard to take pictures. They were dark and blurry. I expected more. Then my husband realized (after looking at it for me for about two seconds) that the Verizon guy that put the phone case on when I bought it forgot to take the plastic covering off of the lens. Problem solved and now I love everything about my new phone!

S’mores are one of my new pregnancy cravings. Here is a picture with my plastic coated lens from my phone. Blurry but yummy and messy. My kids were happy about this craving!

Outdoor toys make fun (but very loud!) indoor toys during the winter. Or at least until an unseasonably warm January day to take them outside and do some lawn maintenance.

My book club meets on Monday. We’re reading “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn. It’s a good read so far but I’m still having problems finishing it. I have a ways to go but will give it my all this weekend. I never know if I should start my book club selection a week or two weeks before we meet. Sometimes if I do two weeks I finish too soon and have a hard time remembering what I want to discuss. Lately my problem has been finishing the book so I guess that means I need to start it earlier.
