A Look Back at 2013

Running in 2013 was a roller coaster ride. I was so happy to be back at running after the birth of my third daughter but it was tough. I wasn’t expecting it to be such a long ‘comeback’ but it was quite a journey.

A Look Back at 2013 | A Mother's Pace

My goal race for the year was the Prairie Fire Half Marathon in October. Even though I did not end up with a PR, my training went very well and I was happy with this postpartum race.

All throughout the month of December I was trying to reach the next milestone of 600 miles for the year. Actually, I had no idea that I added incorrectly in my training log somewhere. After comparing my paper log to Nike+ month to month I realized that I actually surpassed 600 miles much earlier than I had thought. Of course I only figured this out yesterday… The good news is that my mileage is a lot higher than I thought for the year!

Speaking of mileage, 2013 was my highest mileage year yet. Although I already have plans to leave 2013 in the dust when it comes to mileage next year.

My year in numbers.

665.27: number of running miles

My 12 Pics for 2013

I saw a fun hashtag on Instagram (#my12picsof2013) and I instantly knew I would have to play along. During the last 12 days of 2013 I posted a favorite photo from the 12 months of the year.

I loved looking back on my photos for the year and some months it was very hard to pick a favorite. The 12 photos are pretty kid heavy but I’ll be the first one to admit that I’m biased when it comes to my children.

And if you can make it through the following pictures you’ll find my normal Monday weekly training log at the end of this post.

I’m pretty happy that all of my children love books. They always have books with them in bed and I often find them snuggling with them after they’ve fallen asleep.

I cannot believe I was ever this huge! 9 months pregnant and I love this photo because our daughter was born a couple of weeks later in the middle of another snow storm.

Train love and baby love. Both are a big deal in our house. This photo is my favorite from the entire year.

Little A loves to get dirty and painty. I have fond memories of this afternoon specifically because she played with the cars and paint for a very long time. Thoroughly enjoying every minute.

Summertime! Outside! Bikes! So much fun.

Another sleeping photo. Little E fell asleep while watching the big kids play with trains.

I took a monthly photo of Little E and it was hard to just pick one for this project. I probably could have filled the whole year up with favorites from this photo shoot each month. It’s such a joy to watch a baby grow and develop through the first year of life.

Little O finally learned how to ride his tricycle well and FAST. Watching him ride his bike was hands down one of my favorite things to do over the summer.

Happiness is an ice cream cone as big as your head. Need I say more?

My husband ran his first half marathon and I ran my 5th in October. I still am so proud of his accomplishment!

The last two photos I haven’t put on Instagram yet but you get a sneak peak! This one is from the last day in November. We had just put up our tree and it was magical for my 3 year old.

And she’s walking! At 10 months and 4 days old my Little E took her first steps. This is much earlier than my other two children and SO. MUCH. FUN!

So you’ve made it though all of the photographs and now I’m going to wrap up my last full week of running in 2013.

Drinks and Dessert

As it turns out, a holiday week isn’t such a great week to take photos of food. I evidently like to take pictures of drinks and dessert instead.

[beer]
This holiday brew from Magic Hat is pretty tasty.

[coffee]
I’m loving my new coffee cup that my kiddos gave me for Christmas. Go Cubbies!

[tea]
A warm pot of tea in the afternoon is my beverage of choice lately. My husband (he works from home) and I have been sipping on a mug of hot tea throughout the midday hours lately.

[santa cookies]
Of course, I didn’t eat these…cough, cough…but I did eat a few other chocolate chip cookies from the batch.

[pecan pie]
My favorite pie that my mom makes. So delicious!

Our menu for next week:

[monday]
Ham with Pasta and Peas

[tuesday]
Carnitas (from the freezer, leftover from when my BIL made them over Thanksgiving…YUM!)

[wednesday]
Sweet potatoes with chili on top. Haven’t tried this yet? Do it, so good!

[thursday]
Chicken, Sweet Potatoes and Green Beans
I don’t follow the recipe in the link exactly. I’ve changed the potatoes to sweet potatoes, I use a lot less butter and I add my own spices instead of the packet. It’s really an easy and delicious meal.

[friday]
Sushi, Dinner Out! Our 5 year anniversary date!

[saturday]
Homemade Pizza Night

[sunday]
Minestrone Soup

Peas and Crayons
