My Favorite Time of the Week + a WINNER!

Friday is finally here! I say that, but strangely, this week seemed to go by pretty quickly. I’m always happy to see a Friday though!

This week I’ve rounded up a few random thoughts for you for my Friday Five. Happy Friday!

[one]
The winner of the ENERGYbits sample is Nancy D! Congrats, Nancy. I’ve sent you an email and I’ve also forwarded your email on to the ENERGYbits crew.

Yesterday my pinning finger got quite a workout. Lindsay over at the Lean Green Bean hosted her fourth Pin It Party. I linked up 5 of my favorite posts but the real fun happened later. I found so many great recipes, workouts and other tips on so many different pages yesterday and I pinned away. I’m not through the list yet so I’ll be back to find more.

[three]
One of my favorites times of the week happens when we’re at the Y. Not because I’m exercising (honestly, we don’t use the Y for grown up exercise much) but because I’m watching my children at dance and gymnastics.

My Favorite Time of the Week, A Training Plan that Scares Me and a WINNER! | A Mother's Pace

[four]
Training for my next half marathon begins on Monday. Because of this I’m debating about my running plans this weekend. 1) Run a short 5 miles to give myself a little break before a tough training cycle starts. 2) Run a race on Sunday for fun. 3) Keep going with my progression and run 6-7 miles to get ready for my 8 miler next weekend. Decisions, decisions…

[five]
The training schedule I mentioned above is my toughest one yet. I’m determined this time around to run under 2 hours and I’m going to do the work to make sure that happens. It scares me a little but it’s exciting at the same time.

Did you participate in the Pin It Party? Have you ever made or followed a training plan that scared you?

Tempo Treadmill Run

Need a new workout to bust the winter treadmill boredom? I explain the workout below in the original post. I’ve found that pushing buttons and changing it up helps to get through a treadmill run.

Chicken, Green Beans and Sweet Potatoes

This is an easy meal to put together (5 minutes!) and so delicious. I’ve made this ‘pinterest’ find my own clean eating recipe.

4 Things I Learned During my 5k Training Cycle

Just a few things I learned about training while I went through a 5k training cycle. I usually train for longer distances so this was a new experience for me.

Bart Yasso’s Favorite Treadmill Workouts

A few weeks ago, Bart Yasso, CRO of Runner’s World Magazine, posted his favorite treadmill workout on Twitter. I love finding new treadmill workouts so I guess you could say I was excited to see Bart’s favorite.

I tweeted him a quick thank you.

And proceeded to write it down on one of my very professional looking cards to try at a later date.

The next day I was happily surprised to see that Bart was sharing his second favorite treadmill workout.

You guessed it, I tweeted him another quick thank you and then wrote down that workout as well.

The next day I stalked his Twitter account to see if I had missed his 3rd favorite. Surely his unofficial series can’t just stop with two!

Well, the man is busy, that’s an understatement! I’m just impressed that he replied to me. :)

I didn’t end up seeing his 3rd favorite when he put it out in the twitterverse but I have tried both of his other favs down on my treadmill.

I ran his top treadmill workout first but only ended up running 4 repeats instead of 5. With the warm up and cool down it still ended up as a 5 mile run and that was plenty for the workout I had wanted.

I’ve found that pressing buttons and changing incline on the treadmill greatly helps distract me from running in one place. This workout was challenging enough for a speed work session but fun at the same time.

I love that his second favorite plays around with the incline. I haven’t done that much on my treadmill yet but I’m loving adding incline lately so this one was perfect yesterday morning.

The workout called for 8 (!!) repeats with 3 minutes at a 2% incline and a 10k pace. I’ll work up to 8 but for my workout yesterday, I ended up accomplishing half of that to make a nice 4 mile run.

How did I figure out all of my paces for these workouts? I used Greg McMillan’s running calculator and plugged in my latest race time to find my goal paces.

If you’re not following Bart Yasso on Twitter yet, do it! And if you’d like a more ‘professional’ write up of Bart’s favorites, check out this article from Runner’s World. I was delighted (yes, I did just say delighted!) to see that they published it because I had missed his 3rd favorite treadmill workout when he tweeted it. It’s a half marathon pace workout and, yes, I’m going to try it soon.

Do you follow Bart Yasso on Twitter? What are some of your other favorite running people on Twitter? And, finally, what is YOUR favorite treadmill workout?
