Dusting off the Double Jogging Stroller

This week was a MUCH better week of running. I’m participating in a challenge over on Instagram with the Run This Year team and our challenge last Monday was to post a weekly workout schedule. (Not following me on Instagram yet? Click here to find my account.)

I’m amazed at how much this motivated me to stick to my running plan for the week. I always have a plan for the week but putting it out there before the week even started made me stick to it as much as possible.

I had to switch a few runs up. I turned Monday into my rest day but I just pushed back Mondays workout a day and skipped my rest day on Wednesday. Thursday I was supposed to try a negative split run but trying to do that with a double jogging stroller proved to be too hard.

All in all, I’m very happy with how the week turned out. For now I’m going to continue posting my weekly plan to Instagram to help put my best foot forward with accountability.

My first stroller run of the year happened this week. I was all dressed and ready to run early in the morning when we realized we were out of milk. My husband ran to the store instead. That’s when I decided to take the girls out while my son was in preschool. Boy, I’m either out of practice or they’ve gotten a lot heavier over the winter. (probably both!) It was a challenging run for me but so much fun.

We talked the entire time. My 3-year-old loved pointing out all the animals (squirrels, rabbits, birds, turtles, etc…) and my 1-year-old pointed and giggled at everything. I was hoping to get in at least 3 miles but I ended up running just over 4 with them. The only issue was that the wind picked up while we were out and anytime we headed North it was coming straight at us. The girls didn’t like that very much and I felt like I was running in place. Luckily we didn’t have to run that direction for very long.

After the run we played at the park for awhile and enjoyed the beautiful spring morning. I loved this stroller run but I’m not sure how often I’ll be able to do it with them and stick to my training plan. Speed work days happen to fall on the same days that my son is in school and I’m definitely not able to attempt speed work while pushing a stroller!

Does Instagram help to keep you accountable? Do you or have you ran with a stroller?

Nice week! I don’t use Instagram as much as I probably should…it’s motivating to see what other people are doing!

I hereby predict you are about to get crazy fast. I swear everyone I know that manages to rock the stroller runs becomes an all-star :)

I don’t know how you do it, running with a double! Great job on the 4 miles at 10 min pace with them as well! You get super Mom status right there!!
How hard was it to adjust to running with a double? I am happy when I run 4 miles with my single and it is hard for me, even to get to 4.

    • Thanks, Lindsey. :) I actually have never ran with a single stroller. My two oldest are so close together that I never really got back into running that much in between those pregnancies. I’m pretty sure that this was our longest stroller run together and the great part about that is that they could have kept going. They weren’t crabby at all and were very entertained by the ride. I’ll probably stick to around the 3-4 mile range with them for awhile though!

Hi, as from today I am following your blog, I have a one year old as well and started running 5k runs since December, do you have any good advice. Regards from the Netherlands

    • Hi Chantal,
Thanks for visiting and following! One year olds are so much fun, aren’t they? They just soak up everything and learn so much. My Little E keeps us busy!
I saw in your other comment (which was mixed up in spam and that’s why it didn’t post) that you were interested in tips to run faster. First of all, great job getting out there and running those 5k’s! They are tough, especially when you want to run faster. My top three tips for running faster are 1)Add Speed work (tempo, fartlek, interval or stride workouts) Pick one to add once a week. You have to run faster to run faster. :) 2)Add strength training a couple of times a week. A stronger body will be more efficient which will help you run faster. 3) Eat well. Healthy foods will fuel your body and make it stronger as well.
Best of luck to you and keep on enjoying those 5k’s!
I also tried to check out your blog but I only speak English. :/ I did see that you use Nike+ and I do too! Are you on instagram?

Hi, thanks for responding, one year old are really adorable and a hand full :) Good tips you gave me, I have started interval training, though but feeling stronger. I also did a hill training, running u a hill 5 times. Unfortunately the Netherlands don’t have much hills, so that work out is one to practise in the gym. I use Nike+ really like the compliments you receive if you practise well. I am following you on instragram my name there is: agentmacgyver (strange name I now)To bad you can’t translate my blog, maybe if I get more followers I will write in english. Good luck with the miles to come!
