Running, Reading, Food and Family Goals for 2016

Goal setting at the beginning of the year is something that I look forward to. This year I broke my goals down into a few groups and I’m sharing them here with you today. Accountability is so important! Help me stay on top of my goals for the year. These goals also shed a light on the direction that I want to take my blog in 2016. Running, Healthy Food, Wildtree, Family, Reading. Those are all things I’m passionate about and all things I’ll share on the blog.

I miss running consistently but it is slowly coming back to me after the birth of my daughter in October. Setting running goals and competing in challenges is very motivating and helps me wake up in the morning. My biggest hurdle for these goals is being able to get my run in every day. It’s tricky to balance the timing of heading out for an early morning run and nursing a baby. I’m taking a no excuses approach to my running goal unless my baby girl needs to nurse. That’s obviously more important!

  • Goal 1: Run Consistently. Strive for 5 runs per week. Work up to about 30 miles per week.
  • Goal 2: Strength Train Regularly. Strive for at least 2 times per week.
  • Goal 3: Sign up for races or challenges. Having a race on the calendar or needing to hit a certain amount of miles for #Challengeville is highly motivating.
  • Goal 4: Eat Healthy Real Food. This goes hand in hand with my running goals for the year.

Wake up and Run | A Mother's Pace

Healthy Food | Real Food

I’ve been a Wildtree Representative for several months now and I can’t say enough good things about the company. The food is fantastic. It’s made with the finest natural and organic ingredients available. What I put on the table for my family is important for our health and I enjoy helping other families put healthy food on their table as well.

  • Goal 1: Menu Plan. Each week I’m planning on sharing my menu plan with you. I’ve been really good at planning out the week for us at home but I’m hoping that sharing it with you will help to give you some ideas on what to fix for dinner.
  • Goal 2: Organize Our Pantry. My goal in this area is to organize the pantry so it’s easier to get to the healthy food that I want our family to eat. Hopefully this is a short term goal and I can get it finished in January!
  • Goal 3: Eat a Variety of Food. I love when my kids try something new and like it! Trying new recipes exposes the kids (and us!) to different flavors and we’ve already found a lot that we enjoy. The photo below is from Wildtree’s Thai Green Curry that we made a few days ago. A completely new recipe and so delicious!

Reading is so relaxing for me and my TBR (to be read) list is growing every day. When there is so much to be done every day it’s hard to get in reading unless I make it a priority. That’s why it’s one of my goals this year.

  • Goal 1: Read 24 books in 2016
  • Goal 2: Read for at least 20 minutes. Every. Single. Day.

Family is last on the list here but most important overall! My main goal for the year is to concentrate on spending quality time together. More game nights, more stories, more pretend play.

So that’s it. Those are my goals for the year. I look at this list and all together it looks a little overwhelming along with all my daily responsibilities. But I have a plan to fit it all in and I’m sharing that with you next week!

Have a great weekend!

Do you set aside time to do something fun for yourself, like reading?

I Mustache You Some Questions

I Mustache You Some Questions | amotherspace.net

I’ve been enjoying this survey floating around and so I was excited when Laura tagged me to answer the I Mustache You Some Questions survey.

Four names that people call me, other than my real name:

  • Angie (It’s what I go by but my actual name is Angela.)
  • Ang
  • Mommy (best nickname ever!)
  • That’s it, I think. I’m still surprised that I don’t have a nickname from my extended family, I’m just about the only one.

Four jobs I have had:

  • Preschool/Pre-K teacher for 11 years
  • Pizza Delivery Girl (college)
  • Snack Bar at a Skating Rink (high school)

  • Frozen (what can I say, my kids are loving it right now)
  • How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (completely a guilty pleasure movie!)
  • Fever Pitch (yep, I love baseball)

Four books I’d recommend:

  • The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt (I’m reading it right now for book club.)
  • Mind Gym by Gary Mack (This one helped me to earn some pretty significant PRs lately.)
  • The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein (It had me in tears but I loved it.)
  • A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett (My copy from childhood is falling apart.)

Four places I have lived:

  • Sioux City, IA
  • Sioux Falls, SD
  • Wichita, KS
  • Manhattan, KS

Four places I have been:

  • Mexico
  • Chicago
  • New York City
  • Colorado (I love Colorado in the summer!)

I’ve only been out of the country once so I answered with some of my favorite places to travel to in the United States.

Four places I’d rather be right now:

  • Outside Running
  • At Wrigley Field watching a Cubs game
  • Hiking somewhere in Colorado
  • Out on a sushi date with my husband

Four things I don’t eat:

  • Black Olives
  • Sauerkraut
  • Subway (my least favorite place to eat out)
  • Almond Joy candy bars (Coconut…blah!)

Four of my favorite foods:

  • Pizza

Not the healthiest list but I’m keeping it real!

Four TV shows that I watch:

  • Parenthood
  • Scandal
  • House of Cards (My husband and I are watching it together.)
  • The Good Wife

Four things I am looking forward to this year:

  • Having my extended family in town for Christmas
  • Playing outside in the snow with my kids
  • My next goal race in the spring
  • Watching my children grow and develop this year

Four things I’m always saying:

  • We need to hurry, we’re running late.
  • Love you! to my family
  • What should we have for dinner this week?
  • Have a great day at school today! (I feel like I am always in the car dropping the kids off at school!)

New Apps, Cross Country, Oiselle + More!

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done a Friday Favorites post. I have a lot of favs right now so I’ll jump right in.

Instagram Favorites | amotherspace.net

[one] I recently made the switch from Android to iPhone and I’m loving all the new apps that are now available to me. I’ve been playing around a little on Instagram lately. Fitsnap is one of my favorites! [two] I was recently featured on the Another Mother Runner website in Sarah and Dimity’s Follow That Mother series. Read more —> here. [three] I’m running in the early morning still and lately that means I’m seeing some pretty spectacular sunrises. [four] It always amazes me when I can run a pace for 7 miles (or more) when sometimes that exact same pace is impossible for 3 miles. [five] I’ve had a few treadmill miles lately and they’ve been tough. I’m slowly getting used to it again because I’m guessing I’ll be on it a lot over the winter.

Flashback Friday

Flashback Friday | amotherspace.net

I stumbled upon this oldie but goodie recently from my high school cross country days. This particular photo was taken during a state championship and I believe I placed dead last. My injury on my leg was killing me and the only reason I didn’t drop out was because our little team of 5 needed everyone to cross the finish line in order to place as a team. Little did I know that one of my other teammates dropped out of the race earlier! I’m glad I finished though. I specifically remember people clapping for me at the finish line and besides being completely embarrassed, I was proud that I finished.

Oiselle Roga | amotherspace.net

Hands down, my favorite running shorts are the Oiselle Rogas. (affiliate link) Until buying these I was wearing inexpensive shorts that were for the most part purchased at Target. I had no idea how nice a pair of shorts that actually fit well could be. Ever since I purchased these it’s been hard to pull out my old shorts and when I do I’m constantly tugging on them. I don’t think the old ones will last much longer in my rotation!

I also purchased the Winona Tank and I’m a big fan of that as well. The fabric is so soft that I almost feel like it shouldn’t be a workout shirt!

Marathon training is the perfect time to listen to an audio book. I’m currently making my way through The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. I only listen to it while I’m running so it’s a great motivator to get me out the door. I had heard that it was a really good book but I didn’t know anything about it before I started listening. Needless to say, I’m hooked.
